The fuse will generate a large arc light at the moment of fusing, and the arc short circuit will cause accidents. The accident can be avoided only if the arc light is extinguished in a short time. The fuse mainly ensures that the arc light is extinguished in a short time by the following two ways, so as to protect the circuit.
1. One is to put the melt into a sealed insulating pipe, which is made of some high-strength material. This material can decompose a large amount of gas under the high temperature of the arc, which can generate high pressure in the pipe to compress the arc and increase the potential gradient of the arc, so as to achieve the purpose of arc extinguishing.
2. The other is to install the fuse melt in a fuse tube with insulating sand filler (such as quartz sand). When the melt disconnects the circuit to generate an arc, the insulating sand can absorb the arc energy, and the metal vapor can be emitted into the gaps of the sand, so that the melt can be cooled quickly to achieve the purpose of arc extinguishing. Quartz sand has high thermal conductivity and insulation performance, and has a large contact area with the arc, which is easy to absorb the arc energy, so it can rapidly cool the arc. Quartz sand used for filling fuses is usually selected and specially treated. To ensure its compactness, special equipment must be used for filling to ensure the stability of fuse performance.
